In search of the perfect bag for urban photo walks and day hikes. I have a small frame, 5'6", 140# so a compact bag is a must when doing active travel like hiking. Overall I'm impressed with the design. My only concern is tight camera storage which can defeat the sling feature (eg. Packing 5D Mk3, a 70-200 f2.8 with hood, 580EXII speedlite and a 24-105 f4 meant I had to take the bag off to get the camera out)
I took the bag on a day hike here in SF on the Matt Davis trail which is about 8 miles with 1600ft elevation change. Packed my 5D with hand strap, 24-105 w/hood, 17-40, 50 prime, rain jacket, 2L Hydrapak, short sleeve tee, Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom and snacks. The bag proved to be very comfortable fully loaded with water. The waist flaps did a great job supporting the bag. The back is contoured and well ventilated. The shoulder straps are comfortable. My only complaint is that the sternum strap can be difficult to snap as the clip for the hydration tube interferes.
